Set the active workset from an element (Set workset)

Assign a workset to the selected elements.

Ribbon location:
VP_Manage > Manage
Command:
SetWorkset

1. Purpose

Switches the active workset to one element's workset in a single click — no scrolling a long workset list. New modeling lands in the right workset, no more borrowing a teammate's.

2. Quick video (≤ 2 minutes)

[Video in production — follow the steps below for now.]

3. Steps

  1. Work in a workshared file (a plain file has no worksets, so the command does nothing). [image 01: element on the workset to switch to]
  2. Pre-select 1 element on the workset you want, or leave the selection empty and pick during the run.
  3. Click Set workset in the VP_Manage tab, Manage panel.
  4. If nothing was pre-selected, pick 1 element when asked.
  5. The active workset jumps to that element's workset — keep modeling and the new work lands right. [image 02: the active workset after switching]

4. Real-world example

Drawing pipes on the HVAC workset but needing a few runs on the Fire workset. Pick an existing fire pipe, run the command — the active workset flips to Fire, the next 5 runs land correctly, no Worksets dialog hunting.

5. Common errors

SymptomFix
Clicking changes no worksetThe file isn't workshared (no worksets) — the command needs worksharing
Wrong element pickedRerun with an element truly on the target workset
Wrong workset noticed after modelingSwitch the active workset, then move the misplaced work over via Properties
