1. Purpose
Jumps straight from a viewport on a sheet to its source view for editing, without hunting through the Project Browser. Use it when checking documents: spot a mistake on the sheet, open the source view immediately to fix it.
2. Quick video (≤ 2 minutes)
[Video in production — follow the steps below for now.]
3. Steps
- Open the sheet holding the viewport to fix (the command only runs when the active view is a sheet). [image 01: open sheet with viewports]
- Click Open view in sheet in the VP_LAYOUT tab, Sheets panel.
- Revit prompts to pick 1 viewport in the sheet — click exactly the viewport to open. [image 02: cursor picking a viewport on the sheet]
- The tool opens that viewport's source view for editing. [image 03: the freshly opened source view]
4. Real-world example
Checking sheet A-101, the level-2 dimensions look off. Open sheet A-101, run the command, click the level-2 plan viewport — the source view opens, fix the dimensions, and the sheet updates right away.
5. Common errors
| Symptom | Fix |
|---|---|
| "Please open a ViewSheet first, then rerun the command" | A regular view is active by mistake — open the sheet, then rerun |
| "The selected element is not a valid viewport" | Click the viewport frame itself, not dimensions, tags, or leaders on the sheet |
| "View not found from the selected viewport" | The viewport link is broken — delete that viewport from the sheet and place it again with Put views in sheet |
