Add circuit

Add a picked element to the circuit of a source element.

Ribbon location:
VP_MEP > Electrical
Command:
AddCir

1. Purpose

Drops one light, socket, or conduit run (FamilyInstance, MEPCurve) into an existing circuit without redrawing wires. Use it when extra loads show up after the circuits are done.

2. Quick video (≤ 2 minutes)

[Video in production — follow the steps below for now.]

3. Steps

  1. Click Add circuit in the VP_MEP tab, Electrical panel.
  2. Pick the source element — it must belong to exactly one circuit (that circuit becomes the target). [image 01: picking the source element in a circuit]
  3. Pick the element to add (different from the source, not already in the target circuit, must have connectors). [image 02: picking the element to add]
  4. The tool reports "Added element \<id\> to circuit \<number\>." — done.

4. Real-world example

A corridor already has circuit C-12 with 8 downlights, and the client adds one more light at the far end. Pick an old light on C-12, then pick the new light — it joins C-12 at once, existing wiring untouched.

5. Common errors

SymptomFix
"Source element must belong to exactly one circuit."The source is in zero or several circuits — repick an element that belongs to exactly one circuit
"Source element and added element must be different."You picked the same element twice — pick a different element to add
"Selected element is already in the target circuit."That element is already in the target circuit — nothing to add
"Selected element has no connectors available for circuiting."The element has no electrical connector — check whether the family carries one
"Revit rejected the selected element for this circuit. Check connector type, system compatibility, and panel constraints."Revit refused (connector type, system, or panel mismatch) — check the circuit's connector type and panel
