Auto Excel
Parse an electrical cluster list from the clipboard into Revit devices.
1. Purpose
Copy a whole Excel cluster table at once (clusters separated by @, 3 #-separated parts inside each), and the tool parses it, matches devices by E_To + E_LoadName, then shows a dialog to build devices in Revit. Use it to roll out a floor or building from a final cluster table.
2. Quick video (≤ 2 minutes)
[Video in production — follow the steps below for now.]
3. Steps
- In Excel, lay out the cluster table and copy it all: one cluster per row as
Destination#LoadName#Wire, clusters separated by@(Excel line breaks count as@). Example:T3-DB1#Area A lights#CV-3x4@T3-DB1#Area A sockets#CV-3x2.5. [image 01: a multi-cluster Excel table in the right format] - In Revit, click Auto Excel in the CircuitData pulldown, VP_MEP tab, Electrical panel.
- The tool parses the clipboard, matches devices per cluster (exact E_To and E_LoadName), and shows a dialog listing how many devices each cluster found. [image 02: the cluster-to-device match dialog]
- Confirm in the dialog to build/assign devices; for unmatched clusters, fix E_To/E_LoadName on the model and rerun.
4. Real-world example
Floor 3 has a final 25-cluster table. Copy the whole table, run the command — 23/25 clusters match existing devices, 2 have mistyped load names. Fix the 2 load names on the model, rerun — all 25 clusters land, a whole floor of devices built in minutes instead of half a day of manual picking.
5. Common errors
| Symptom | Fix |
|---|---|
| "Clipboard rỗng hoặc không đọc được." (clipboard empty/unreadable) | The table was never copied (or blank cells were) — recopy the text range in Excel, then rerun |
| "Không parse được cluster nào từ clipboard." (no cluster parsed) | Wrong format (missing @/#, a part missing) — check every cluster reads Destination#LoadName#Wire |
| A cluster matches zero devices | Model E_To/E_LoadName differ from Excel (typo, extra space) — align both sides; matching is exact, character by character |
| A cluster matches the wrong device | Two devices share E_To + E_LoadName — give them distinct load names, then rerun |
