Find & replace

Find and replace text in string parameters of the selected elements.

Ribbon location:
VP_MEP > Electrical > CircuitData
Command:
FindReplaceParameter

1. Purpose

Batch find-and-replace across the string parameters of selected elements — e.g. renaming "T2" to "T3" in a whole floor's load names. Only editable instance parameters are touched; type parameters and locked ones are skipped. The tool remembers the last find/replace pair for quick repeats.

2. Quick video (≤ 2 minutes)

[Video in production — follow the steps below for now.]

3. Steps

  1. Preselect the elements to fix (selection upfront is mandatory — no picking afterwards). [image 01: selecting the elements to fix]
  2. Click Find & replace in the CircuitData pulldown, VP_MEP tab, Electrical panel.
  3. Type the find text and the replacement in the dialog — matching is exact, case-sensitive — then OK. [image 02: the Find/Replace input dialog]
  4. The tool replaces across every editable string parameter in the selection, then reports how many spots changed and how many failed.

4. Real-world example

Floor 2 copied into floor 3, but 50 devices still carry "T2-..." load names. Select the 50 devices, Find T2-, Replace T3-, OK — every E_LoadName and related string parameter flips in one pass, no per-element Properties.

5. Common errors

SymptomFix
"Chọn ít nhất một element trước khi chạy lệnh." (select at least one element)Nothing selected — highlight the elements to fix first, then run
"Find không được để trống." (Find must not be blank)The Find box is empty — type the search text, then OK
"Không có parameter string instance phù hợp để thay thế." (no eligible string instance parameter)The selection has no editable string parameters (all type or locked) — recheck the selection
"Thay thế hoàn tất với lỗi: ..." (completed with errors)A few parameters failed (up to 8 detail lines included) — read each id line, hand-fix those spots
Some spots unchanged after the runMatching is exact and case-sensitive — check the Find text matches the old value 100%
