Licensing through VP Launcher
Open VP Launcher, sign in, wait a few seconds, rerun the command — no Revit restart.
1. Purpose
Unlocks every tool command with a short-lived per-machine lease issued by VP Launcher, instead of hand-typing keys per machine. On normal days there is nothing to do — reach for this guide only when a command reports an expired license.

3. Steps
- Just use Revit normally: every Revit start, the tool asks VP Launcher for a fresh lease when the old one runs short — as long as VP Launcher stays signed in on this machine. There is no "activate" button inside Revit. [image 01: VP Launcher signed in]
- When a command reports "The license has expired or has not been renewed yet...", do exactly three things: open VP Launcher, sign in, wait a few seconds. [image 02: the tool's expiry notice]
- Rerun the same command that failed — it runs immediately, no Revit restart needed. [image 03: the command succeeding after renewal]
4. Real-world example
Monday morning, printing sheets fails with an expired license (the machine was off all weekend, so the lease never renewed). VP Launcher shows a signed-out session after a password change — sign back in, wait 10 seconds, hit print again: all 15 sheets come out as PDF, Revit open since the start of the session.
5. Common errors
| Symptom | Fix |
|---|---|
| "The license has expired or has not been renewed yet..." | Open VP Launcher, sign in, wait a few seconds, then rerun the command (no Revit restart needed) |
| "Invalid license. Please open VP Launcher and reactivate VP Revit API." (bilingual notice) | The lease is corrupt or for the wrong product — reactivate VP Revit API in VP Launcher on this machine |
| "License belongs to another machine..." (bilingual notice) | The lease is pinned to a different machine — open VP Launcher on this exact machine to reactivate |
| "System clock appears rolled back..." (bilingual notice) | The machine clock was set back — correct the date and time, then rerun the command |
| "Cannot read the machine code..." (bilingual notice) | The tool cannot read the machine id — check registry read rights, then reopen VP Launcher |
