Split a gap on the run (Split gap)
Split an element and insert a gap using the preset value.
1. Purpose
Cuts one straight pipe/duct run at 2 points and leaves a preset gap between the cut faces — for an expansion joint, a valve, or a construction break. Two picks and done, no manual split plus gap measuring.

3. Steps
- Open a view showing the straight segment to split (only straight elements are supported). [image 01: straight pipe awaiting its gap]
- Click Split gap in the VP_MEP tab, Common panel.
- Pick the first cut point on the element when asked.
- Pick the second cut point on that same element when asked. [image 02: two cut points on one pipe]
- The tool cuts the run at both points and leaves the preset gap between the faces.
4. Real-world example
A 40 m rooftop PPR run needs one expansion gap mid-way. Run the command, pick 2 points bracketing the joint location — the run splits, the gap is ready for the joint, no split-then-nudge measuring.
5. Common errors
| Symptom | Fix |
|---|---|
| "Hai điểm phải nằm trên cùng 1 Element." | Point 2 must sit on point 1's element |
| "Lệnh chỉ hỗ trợ Element đường thẳng" | Straight segments only — elbows, tees, curved runs won't work |
| "Phần tử không có đường tâm hợp lệ." | The object lacks a centerline — recheck the object |
| "Hai điểm cắt quá gần nhau." | Pick the 2 points farther apart so the gap fits |
| "Không thể xác định vị trí cắt trên phần tử" | Re-pick closer to the element body |
